The Global Standard for Railway Engineering Safety Management
Universal Principles in Engineering Safety Management
iESM is the international rail industry's handbook on Engineering Safety Management. It is a single universal set of good practice that can be applied to railways around the world.
iESM takes into account a number of key sources:
Alignment with key industry requirements and standards including Common Safety Methods on Risk Evaluation and Assessment and CENELEC Standards EN 50126/8/9
Published literature on Engineering Safety Management from different safety critical industries
Practical experience of undertaking Engineering Safety Management throughout the life cycle - from delivery of projects to ongoing operation and maintenance
iESM is supported by an international working group that includes
representatives from major rail organisations around the world
Due to a global desire to maintain some consistency in the field of Engineering Safety Management, and to keep this information up to date and supplied as a common shared resource, the management of iESM is an international collaboration involving a number of high profile rail organisations who provide their valuable input to the content of iESM.
The iESM working group are responsible for overseeing the production and update to iESM
If you use any of the iESM guidance, you must make sure that it suitable for your project and adapt it where necessary
